Who We Are

Purpose Statement

"The purpose of MBC is to be a Christian community rooted in a lifestyle of worship, being shaped and empowered by the Word of God to make disciples who demonstrate the reality of Jesus Christ."

Vision and Mission Statement

In January 2013, our leadership team identified the following goal during a weekend visioning retreat:

To be a church that is intentionally developing disciples.

The congregation should continually be growing and increasing in spiritual maturity through engagement in Worship, Word & Witness.   We want to be a church that offers ministries to encourage growth in these areas.

  • We Worship through prayer, song and actions individually in our homes, schools and workplaces as well as together as part of Sunday service.

  • We engage in the Word through small group ministry and Sunday service.

  • We participate in God’s mission as we Witness through our Missions programs.

  • We are still building on this vision of discipleship, but we are dedicated to following God’s leading in this area.

Core Values

  • We are Authentic

  • We lovingly draw people toward the cross

  • We are strong in Hospitality

  • We are quietly generous

  • We are restfully confident

Church Governance

In 2007, the church adopted Policy Governance to empower our leaders to follow God’s leading in their ministries without “red-tape” and approval from Boards, Deacons and/or the Pastor.  Policy Governance provides an effective way for the congregation to delegate its authority to the Church Boards and the Pastoral Team.  Under Policy Governance, the church adopts guidelines which form the “fences” or “boundaries” within which all ministries must work.  The Church Boards, ministry teams and the Pastoral Team are then free to accomplish the vision of the Church, while operating within the boundaries established in the guidelines.

In 2013, the church started to restructure our ministry teams to simplify our organizational structural to align with our new discipleship process. We offer ministries to meet the needs of our church and our community for each age group in each area of the discipleship process as shown below.

History of MBC

The church was established in 1833 and later it became a part of a field ministry comprising Keirsteadville, Norton and Midland churches. This union was dissolved upon mutual agreement in 1997. The three churches still maintain a good working relationship and on occasion join together for a time of worship and fellowship. The church underwent a major renovation with the first sod turned in 1986. This resulted in the worship center being turned around and a fellowship room, kitchen and two washrooms added on the main floor and a nursery and Sunday School rooms added downstairs. Further renovations happened in 2003 to our youth and children's center downstairs.

Currently our church has 105 members (some active, some inactive) with 35 children and also a number of active adherents. The average attendance at each Sunday morning service is 55 adults & 20 children. At present, we have a Sunday morning children's ministry and a Sunday morning worship service. There are various small groups meeting throughout the year, including a weekly youth ministry.  Midland offers a scope of ministries for all ages that address the needs of our community locally and globally. We have a casual atmosphere and we socialize after every service with coffee and snacks.  We have a hunger to grow and are willing to change to follow God’s calling for our community.  We have been blessed with a diversity of gifting, ages, spiritual maturity and backgrounds.   The Body is made up of people from various trades and vocations working both in the community and commuting to neighboring communities.
